Arkea® and Safety
Lake Edith YMCA Camp
- Swimming and canoeing had been closed at lake because of pathogenic microbes.
- After Arkea® treatment, pathogen counts were consistently 3 ppm.
- Dam at sewage lagoon next to camp broke in third year of treatment. No increase in pathogen counts even 48 hours post event.
Arkea® Pathogen Reduction - Phoenix, AZ WWTP
- Severe pathogen problem in WRF because of climate
- In year long project, dosing with Arkea® in headworks consistently caused a 2-log reduction in all coliforms prior to disinfection
- Published results in peer-reviewed publication

Pathogen Reduction
Archaea are capable of reducing E. coli, fecal coliform, and total coliform in the effluent of wastewater treatment processes through the following means:
- Reduction in sludge age or mean cell residence time (MCRT)
- Competition for soluble nutrients and soluble substrate
- Adsorption to floc particles or biofilm
- Increase in cropping and coating actions by ciliated protozoa and metazoan
- Reduction in chlorine demand
